INCI name

PPG-2 MYRISTYL ETHER PROPIONATE

PPG-2 myristyl ether propionate

A propoxylated myristyl alcohol esterified with propionic acid, used as an emollient.

What it is

PPG-2 myristyl ether propionate is the propionic acid ester of the polypropylene glycol ether of myristyl alcohol (a C14 fatty alcohol), with an average of 2 propylene oxide units. CosIng lists it as an emollient and skin-conditioning ingredient.

Where it is used

Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products, such as deodorants and skin care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The number 2 refers to the average degree of propoxylation, so the raw material is a mixture of molecules.
