An alkoxylated tocopherol ether used as an antioxidant and conditioning ingredient.
What it is
PPG-70 tocophereth-100 is, according to CosIng, a polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene ether of tocopherol (vitamin E), with an average of 70 propylene oxide and 100 ethylene oxide units. CosIng lists it as an anti-caking agent, antioxidant and skin-conditioning agent.
Where it is used
Found in creams, lotions, cleansers and other water-based products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The numbers 70 and 100 are averages, so the raw material is a mixture of molecules of different sizes.
Functions
- Anticaking
- Preventing agglomeration of particulate solids into lumps or hard masses (cohesive cake), thus allowing free flow of particles.
- Antioxidant
- Inhibiting reactions promoted by oxygen, thus avoiding oxidation and rancidity.
- Skin conditioning
- Maintaining the skin in good condition.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
