INCI name

SHEA BUTTER ETHYL ESTERS

Shea butter ethyl esters

An emollient made from shea butter and ethyl alcohol.

What it is

Shea Butter Ethyl Esters are obtained by transesterifying shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Butter) with ethyl alcohol. The result is a lighter, more fluid material than the butter itself. CosIng lists it as an emollient and skin conditioning agent.

Where it is used

Used in face and body creams, lotions, hair care, lip products and makeup as a light emollient.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The ester is a processed derivative; it does not have the same composition as raw shea butter.
