INCI name

SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS BUTTER

Jojoba butter

A butter-like material made by isomerising jojoba oil, used for hair and skin conditioning.

What it is

Simmondsia chinensis butter is the material obtained by isomerisation of the oil from jojoba, Simmondsia chinensis, a desert shrub. Jojoba oil itself is a liquid wax made mainly of esters of long-chain fatty acids and fatty alcohols. CosIng lists it as a hair-conditioning and skin-conditioning ingredient.

Where it is used

Found in a small number of products, such as balms, lip products and creams.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show the degree of isomerisation, which affects the consistency.
