A recombinant collagen-like protein fragment made by bacteria, used as a film former and conditioning ingredient.
What it is
sr-Hydrozoan polypeptide-1 is a single-chain recombinant protein fragment produced by fermentation in E. coli. According to CosIng, the gene used is synthesised to match the gene coding for fibrillar collagen of the hydrozoan Podocoryna carnea. CosIng lists it as a film-forming, hair-conditioning, humectant, skin-conditioning and UV filter ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in skin care and hair care products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The INCI name does not show the length of the fragment. A CosIng function does not by itself mean that the ingredient is listed among the UV filters permitted in Annex VI.
