A synthetic phenolic antioxidant also used as a fragrance ingredient.
What it is
TBHQ is tert-butylhydroquinone (2-tert-butylbenzene-1,4-diol), a synthetic phenolic compound. CosIng lists it as an antioxidant, fragrance and perfuming ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in lipsticks, oil-based products, creams and other products containing oils that need protection from oxidation.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
Despite the similar name, it is a different substance from hydroquinone. The label does not show the amount used.
