A synthetic resin of toluenesulfonamide and formaldehyde, used as a film former and plasticiser.
What it is
Tosylamide/formaldehyde resin is a polymer of 4-methylbenzenesulfonamide (tosylamide) with formaldehyde. Resins of this type are typical of nail polishes. CosIng lists it as a film-forming and plasticising ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in a small number of products, such as nail polishes.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The INCI name does not show the molecular weight of the resin.
Functions
- Film forming
- Producing (upon application) a continuous film on the skin, hair or nails.
- Plasticiser
- Softening and making supple synthetic polumers that otherwise could not be easily deformed, spread or worked out.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
