About Alterra
Alterra is the natural cosmetics own brand of Rossmann, the drugstore company Dirk Rossmann GmbH based in Burgwedel near Hanover. The affordable range spans skin care and decorative cosmetics. Most products carry the NATRUE natural cosmetics label, and some carry the BDIH label. Alterra also appears on PETA's list of cosmetics brands that do not test on animals.
Alterra by the numbers
INCIMondo lists 13 Alterra products: hair care, shower gels, sun care and bar soaps. Fragrance dominates the ingredient ranking – LINALOOL comes first after water, ahead of PARFUM, GLYCERIN, LIMONENE and GERANIOL.
12 of the 13 formulas contain fragrance ingredients and 3 contain denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.). Parabens and silicones are absent throughout.
Labels to look for on Alterra
Most Alterra products carry the NATRUE label and some the BDIH label; these certification marks, rather than the word “natural”, show that a specific private standard is met. With LINALOOL, LIMONENE and GERANIOL so common, the named fragrance components are worth reading if you avoid any of them.
