About Dettol

Dettol is a British hygiene brand owned by Reckitt. It began in 1933 with Dettol antiseptic liquid, and the range has since grown to disinfectant sprays and wipes, laundry products, hand sanitiser and bar soaps. The products in our database are personal care items: liquid hand washes and a shower gel.

Hand wash in focus

Liquid hand washes – Original, refills and scented variants such as Hydrate Aloe & Bamboo – make up most of the 8 Dettol products we list, plus a Profresh shower gel. GLYCERIN, SODIUM CHLORIDE and TETRASODIUM EDTA appear in all 8, PARFUM, CITRIC ACID and AQUA in 7, SALICYLIC ACID in 6, and the preservatives METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE (6) and METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE (5).

Fragrance is declared in every formula (100%). None contains parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

Preservatives in rinse-off soap

METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE and METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE usually appear together as a preservative blend; in the EU this combination is restricted to rinse-off products such as hand wash. Dettol's antiseptic liquid and surface products are separate product types with their own labelling, so do not compare them with these soaps.
