About Mentadent
Mentadent is a toothpaste brand built by Unilever, which introduced Mentadent P around 1982. Unilever sold the US and Canadian rights to Church & Dwight in 2003 (the brand was discontinued there in 2017) and continues to market Mentadent in other countries. The products in our database mostly carry Italian labels, with one German variant.
Toothpaste in seven variants
The 7 Mentadent products we list are toothpastes such as Protect+ Carie, Protect+ Gengive, Protect+ Denti fragili, Prevenzione completa and C Carie e smalto. SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, SODIUM SACCHARIN, AROMA, AQUA and CELLULOSE GUM appear in all 7; HYDRATED SILICA, ZINC CITRATE, LIMONENE and HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE in 6; and the fluoride sources SODIUM FLUORIDE (4) and SODIUM MONOFLUOROPHOSPHATE (3).
None of the 7 is flagged for fragrance (the flavour is declared as AROMA), silicones, parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Two kinds of fluoride
Mentadent uses two fluoride sources across its range – SODIUM FLUORIDE in some tubes and SODIUM MONOFLUOROPHOSPHATE in others – and the fluoride content is usually stated in ppm. ZINC CITRATE is a common ingredient in gum-care variants; LIMONENE comes from the flavour.
