About Pantene

Pantene is a hair care brand launched in Europe in 1945 by the Swiss company Hoffmann-La Roche; its name comes from panthenol (provitamin B5). The American company Richardson-Vicks bought the brand in 1985, and Procter & Gamble took over Richardson-Vicks later the same year, so Pantene has belonged to P&G since then. The range consists of shampoos, conditioners and treatments, grouped into lines such as Pro-V, Repair & Protect and Colour Protect.

Panthenol, as the name suggests

The ingredient Pantene was named after tops our count: PANTHENOL appears in 79 of the 81 shampoos, conditioners and treatments we list. It is followed by CITRIC ACID (78), HISTIDINE (63) and the preservative METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE (59).

All 81 formulas declare fragrance (100%), and silicones appear in 47 (58%). Parabens and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) are rare, with 2 products (2%) each.

Pro-V, Repair & Protect, Colour Protect

The lines share a base but not always the same conditioning agents, so compare a shampoo with others from the same line. The two products with parabens are easy to identify by names ending in -PARABEN, such as METHYLPARABEN or PROPYLPARABEN.
