About TheraBreath
TheraBreath is an American oral care brand founded in 1994 in Los Angeles by the dentist Harold Katz, who had begun researching bad breath in the early 1990s. Church & Dwight acquired the company in December 2021 for a reported $580 million. Its oral care products are built around chlorine dioxide chemistry.
Four rinses, one sweetener system
All 4 TheraBreath entries are mouth rinses: a plain Mouthwash, Fresh Breath Icy Mint, the Fresh Breath Oral Rinse and the Healthy Gums Oral Rinse. GLYCERIN appears in all 4; AROMA, SUCRALOSE, MENTHOL, SODIUM BICARBONATE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, SODIUM BENZOATE and WATER in 3; SODIUM CHLORITE, XYLITOL, POLOXAMER 407 and PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL in 2.
None of the 4 declares fragrance (PARFUM), parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Flavour, sweetness and actives
In oral care the taste comes from AROMA and MENTHOL, and sweetness from SUCRALOSE or XYLITOL rather than sugar; SODIUM CHLORITE is the ingredient linked to the brand's chlorine dioxide approach. In the US some rinses are regulated as drugs, with the active ingredient printed separately – read both lists on the bottle.
