About Tołpa

Tołpa is the cosmetics brand of Torf Corporation, a Polish company established in 1989 to develop the research of Professor Stanisław Tołpa on substances derived from peat, with financial backing from Barbara Piasecka-Johnson. Its first product was a peat-extract preparation for oral care. The company has run a modern plant in Kąty Wrocławskie near Wrocław since 2015, and in 2018 the Resource Partners fund acquired a 70% stake. Peat extract remains a recurring ingredient in the brand's face, body and oral care.

Peat in almost everything

The brand's peat research shows clearly in our data: PEAT EXTRACT is listed in 119 of the 129 Tołpa products and is the most frequent ingredient after water, followed by CAPRYLYL GLYCOL (118), BENZOIC ACID (116) and METHYLPROPANEDIOL (113). Face creams, toners and eye creams are the main categories.

None of the formulas contains parabens or silicones, and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) appears in only 8 (6%). Fragrance is more common, declared in 110 products (85%).

Where the peat sits

Ingredients are listed in descending order down to a concentration of 1%, after which the order is free. So the position of PEAT EXTRACT tells you something only when it sits above that point – which, on a single label, you cannot always tell. Compare similar products from the range side by side.
