INCI name

ARACHIDYL ALCOHOL

Arachidyl alcohol

A long-chain fatty alcohol used as a thickener and stabiliser.

What it is

Arachidyl alcohol (icosan-1-ol) is a fatty alcohol with 20 carbon atoms. CosIng lists it as an emollient, emulsion stabiliser and viscosity-controlling agent.

Where it is used

Found in creams and lotions, often together with behenyl alcohol and arachidyl glucoside.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Like other fatty alcohols, it is not a drying alcohol such as ethanol.
