A benzophenone derivative used to protect products from light and as a fragrance ingredient.
What it is
Benzophenone-2 is 2,2',4,4'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone, a benzophenone with four hydroxyl groups that absorbs ultraviolet light. CosIng lists it as a fragrance ingredient, light stabiliser and UV absorber; as a UV absorber it protects the product itself from light.
Where it is used
Found in perfumes, nail products and other scented products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
A UV absorber function relates to protecting the product, not the skin. The INCI list does not show the concentration used.
