An inorganic fluoride used in oral care products, regulated in EU Annex III.
What it is
Calcium fluoride is the calcium salt of hydrofluoric acid, CaF2, a white, poorly water-soluble solid that occurs naturally as the mineral fluorite. CosIng lists it as an antiplaque and oral care ingredient. In the EU it is covered by an entry in Annex III (substances subject to restrictions) for oral products, with mandatory label statements.
Where it is used
Found in toothpastes and other oral care products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
See the EU regulation section for the applicable limits and label statements; according to the Annex III entry, certain fluoride toothpastes must carry wording on use by children. The label does not show the fluoride content unless it is stated separately.
