Our record is the 150 g tube; the brand sells several sizes. The brand’s directions are simply to brush twice a day.

Ingredient analysis

Water and sorbitol form the base, with hydrated silica as the cleaning abrasive and glycerin to keep the paste moist. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate provides the foam, xanthan gum thickens, titanium dioxide whitens the paste, and sodium saccharin, menthol and an unspecified flavour give the taste. Calcium fluoride is the fluoride source; the label information we have does not state the fluoride concentration in ppm.

The plant part is long but mostly low on the list: pomegranate pericarp, Zanthoxylum alatum fruit, Acacia arabica bark, Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellerica and Emblica officinalis (the three triphala fruits), Embelia ribes, neem bark, Vitex negundo, miswak (Salvadora persica) stem, Acacia farnesiana, catechu bark powder and Mimusops elengi flower, together with thymol. Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate preserve it.

What to watch out for

Sodium lauryl sulfate is an effective foaming agent, but some people find SLS-free toothpastes more comfortable if their mouth is easily irritated. Menthol and thymol give a strong, herbal-medicinal flavour that not everyone likes. As with any fluoride toothpaste, use a small amount and do not swallow; follow national guidance for children. Claims printed on the carton about gums and teeth are the brand’s own marketing, not something user reviews can confirm.
