A salicylic acid ester used as a fragrance ingredient, regulated in Annex III.

What it is

Hexyl salicylate is the ester of salicylic acid and hexanol. CosIng lists it as a fragrance and perfuming ingredient. In the EU it is covered by an entry in Annex III (substances subject to restrictions), with separate limits for different product types, including products intended for children under 3 years of age.

Where it is used

Found in perfumes, deodorants, shower gels, shampoos, creams and other scented products.

Limits of interpretation
