INCI name

TETRAHYDRODIFERULOYLMETHANE

Tetrahydrocurcumin

A colourless hydrogenated derivative of curcumin used as an antioxidant.

What it is

Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane, known as tetrahydrocurcumin, is 1,7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)heptane-3,5-dione, a hydrogenated form of curcumin, the yellow pigment of turmeric. Unlike curcumin it is practically colourless. CosIng lists it as an antioxidant.

Where it is used

Found in creams, serums and other skin care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not reveal whether it was made from curcumin of plant origin or in another way, or how pure it is.
