About Aquaphor
Aquaphor is a skin care brand introduced in the United States in 1925 and owned by Beiersdorf AG through its affiliate Beiersdorf Inc. Its best-known product is Healing Ointment, an over-the-counter skin protectant in the US that is 41% petrolatum; the Advanced Therapy version followed in 1991, and in 2012 the brand was launched in 25 further countries. Products in our database include the ointment, a lip repair balm, a baby wash and shampoo and a daily lotion.
Ointment-based care
Ointments, lip balms and baby care make up the 9 Aquaphor products we list. PANTHENOL (8) is the most frequent ingredient, followed by BISABOLOL (7), GLYCERIN (7) and MINERAL OIL (6).
None of the 9 lists fragrance (PARFUM). Silicones appear in 1 (11%), and none contains parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Reading an ointment label
In an ointment such as Healing Ointment, which the brand states is 41% petrolatum, PETROLATUM can be expected near the top, and the order shows the other ingredients in decreasing amounts down to 1%. To confirm a product is unscented, check that neither PARFUM nor AROMA nor any named fragrance substance appears.
