About Burt's Bees
Burt's Bees was founded in 1984 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, by Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby. The company began with beeswax candles, and its beeswax lip balm went on to become its best-selling product. It is now headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, and has been owned by Clorox since late 2007.
Lip balms, creams and oils
Lip care heads Burt's Bees' 15 products in INCIMondo, followed by hand creams, face care and toothpastes. The ingredient ranking is led by TOCOPHEROL, then GLYCINE SOJA OIL (soybean oil) and COCOS NUCIFERA OIL (coconut oil), with LIMONENE and AROMA completing the top five.
Fragrance ingredients are present in only 4 of the 15 formulas, and none contains parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Reading a Burt's Bees lip balm
Water-free products such as lip balms tend to have short lists made up of oils and waxes; beeswax appears as CERA ALBA. In the lip and toothpaste products, AROMA refers to flavour rather than perfume.
