About Dove

Dove is a personal care brand owned by Unilever. It was introduced in 1956, and the original Dove Beauty Bar launched in the United States in 1957. The range has since expanded to deodorants, body washes, lotions, hair and facial care, with spin-off lines such as Dove Men+Care and Baby Dove. In 2004 the brand started its Campaign for Real Beauty.

Dove: what the labels show

From the Beauty Bar onwards, Dove has grown into a broad range; INCIMondo holds 27 of its products, mainly deodorants, bar soaps, shower gels and body care. After PARFUM and GLYCERIN, the most frequent ingredients (water aside) are three individually declared fragrance components: HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL and LIMONENE.

Fragrance ingredients are in 25 of the 27 formulas (93%), silicones in 8 (30%) and parabens in 1 (4%). Denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) does not appear in any of them.

Choosing a Dove product

If you avoid a particular fragrance component, it pays to read past PARFUM: HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL and LIMONENE are each named separately when present above EU thresholds. Spin-off lines such as Dove Men+Care or Baby Dove have their own formulas, so compare each product's list rather than the brand name.
