About Palmolive
Palmolive began in 1898 as a bar soap made by the B.J. Johnson Company of Milwaukee from coconut, palm and olive oils. The brand now belongs to Colgate-Palmolive. Its range has grown to include shower gels, liquid hand soap, shampoo and conditioner, as well as dishwashing liquid, which falls outside the scope of a cosmetics database.
Palmolive in numbers
The 69 Palmolive products in INCIMondo are shower gels, bar soaps and hair care. Water aside, the ingredient ranking is led by SODIUM CHLORIDE, then CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE – a mild amphoteric surfactant that supports foaming – and TETRASODIUM EDTA.
Fragrance ingredients are present in all 69 formulas. Silicones appear in 5 (7%), and none of the formulas lists parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Reading Palmolive labels
In Palmolive's gels, SODIUM CHLORIDE is simply salt, used to thicken the surfactant base. Since every formula is scented, the named fragrance components are what distinguishes one variant from another on the label. The brand's dishwashing liquids fall outside a cosmetics database.
