About Tula

Tula is an American skin care brand founded by the gastroenterologist Dr Roshini Raj, together with Ken Landis and Dan Reich, and built around probiotic extracts and superfoods. Procter & Gamble announced its acquisition of the brand in January 2022.

Probiotics and turmeric on the list

Six of the 8 Tula products we list are classed as skin care, including The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser, the 24/7 Ultra Hydrating moisturiser, Bright Start, Bedtime Bright and an SPF 30 moisturiser. GLYCERIN and PHENOXYETHANOL appear in all 8; BUTYLENE GLYCOL, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN and CURCUMA LONGA ROOT EXTRACT (turmeric) in 7, followed by INULIN (6) and HYDROLYZED RICE PROTEIN (5).

Half the range, 4 formulas (50%), declares fragrance, and silicones appear in 2 (25%). None contains parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

Spotting the probiotic extracts

Probiotic ingredients rarely appear as the word "probiotic": look for INCI names such as LACTOBACILLUS FERMENT or BIFIDA FERMENT LYSATE, while INULIN is a plant fibre often used alongside them. Turmeric is listed as CURCUMA LONGA ROOT EXTRACT.
