About Vaseline
Vaseline is a Unilever skin care brand covering body lotion, shower gel and deodorant alongside its petroleum jelly; in Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Spain and Mexico it is sold as Vasenol. The products in our database include the Blue Seal baby jelly, Intensive Care and Expert Care lotions, Gluta-Hya serum lotions with Turkish labels and a lip product.
Petrolatum and parabens
PETROLATUM appears in all 6 Vaseline products we list – from the protective baby jelly to Intensive Care non-greasy lotion, Expert Care Dry Skin Rescue and two Gluta-Hya serum lotions. GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, PHENOXYETHANOL, DISODIUM EDTA and METHYLPARABEN follow in 5 each, with PROPYLPARABEN and TRIETHANOLAMINE in 4.
Parabens, silicones and fragrance each appear in 5 formulas (83%). None contains denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Jelly versus lotion
A petroleum jelly is essentially a single ingredient, PETROLATUM, while the lotions are emulsions in which petrolatum is one of many ingredients, often with silicones and preservatives such as METHYLPARABEN and PROPYLPARABEN. Products sold as Vasenol or in other regions may have different lists, so check the pack you buy.
