About Wella
Wella was founded in 1880 in Rothenkirchen, Saxony, by the German hairdresser Franz Ströher and is now headquartered in Geneva. Procter & Gamble acquired a majority stake in 2003, Coty took over the business in 2016, and in 2020 Wella became an independent company majority-owned by KKR. It focuses on professional hair care and colour, alongside consumer hair products.
Wella's formulas, by the numbers
Wella's 10 products in INCIMondo are hair care and hair colour. PARFUM is the most frequent ingredient after water, followed by DISODIUM EDTA, LINALOOL, PHENOXYETHANOL and HEXYL CINNAMAL – two of the five being individually declared fragrance components.
Fragrance ingredients are present in all 10 formulas. Parabens and silicones each appear in 5, while none contains denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Hair colour and conditioning
For Wella's colourants, the leaflet sets out the allergy test recommended before each use, and oxidation dyes carry specific warnings required in the EU. In conditioning products, silicones are recognisable by endings such as -cone or -siloxane.
