About Alterra
Alterra Naturkosmetik is the own-label natural cosmetics brand of the German drugstore chain Rossmann; it has reportedly been part of the range since 2000, with decorative cosmetics added in 2009. According to Rossmann, the products are mostly certified to NATRUE criteria, and the line now spans face, body and hair care, deodorant, soaps and make-up. Our entries are an oil-free aloe vera gel, an anti-age facial toner, a deodorant cream with organic shea butter and an orange vegetable-oil soap.
Four formats, one constant: scent
The 4 Alterra products share little apart from PARFUM, which appears in all 4; AQUA follows in 3 and GLYCERIN in 2. The rest of the ranking is product-specific, with ingredients such as DECYL GLUCOSIDE, ALCOHOL, SODIUM LEVULINATE, LEVULINIC ACID, P-ANISIC ACID and GINKGO BILOBA LEAF EXTRACT in 1 each.
All 4 declare fragrance (100%) and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) appears in 1 (25%); none contains parabens or silicones.
ALCOHOL versus ALCOHOL DENAT.
Natural cosmetics often list plain ALCOHOL (ethanol, frequently from organic sources) – it is a separate INCI entry from ALCOHOL DENAT., which is why one may appear without the other. The soap's SODIUM HYDROXIDE is used to turn oils into soap; it is a raw material of saponification, not a separate additive in the finished bar.
