About alverde Naturkosmetik

alverde NATURKOSMETIK is the natural cosmetics own brand of the German drugstore chain dm; its first face care products reached dm stores in 1989. Since 2010 the brand has been independently certified to the NATRUE standard, which excludes mineral oils, silicones and parabens, among others. The products are made in Germany by manufacturers dm does not name, and the range of around 550 items spans face, body and hair care, make-up, deodorants and baby care.

Natural-cosmetics chemistry

Shampoos (including a solid coconut-scented bar), a plant-oil soap, deodorant sprays, a body butter and hair treatments make up the 8 alverde products we list. AQUA, PARFUM and LIMONENE appear in 7 each, ALCOHOL, LINALOOL and GLYCERIN in 6, and CITRAL (5) and GERANIOL (4) follow.

Every formula declares fragrance (100%). In line with the certification, none contains parabens or silicones – and while ALCOHOL is listed in 6, denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) appears in none.

ALCOHOL versus ALCOHOL DENAT.

Natural cosmetics often list plain ALCOHOL, sometimes marked with an asterisk as organic, instead of ALCOHOL DENAT.; both are ethanol, but the second has been denatured with additives. LIMONENE, LINALOOL, CITRAL and GERANIOL are fragrance substances that come from essential oils here too and must be named above set levels.
