About Avène

Eau Thermale Avène takes its name from the village of Avène in the Hérault department of southern France, in today's Haut-Languedoc Natural Regional Park; according to the brand, the spring's reputation dates to 1736. The Pierre Fabre group bought the Avène thermal spa in 1975, and the Eau Thermale Avène skincare brand was created in 1990, the year the hydrotherapy centre reopened. Our entries are an SPF 20 thermal water product, a sensitive lip care, the Family Lotion face and body sunscreen and a Très Haute Protection SPF 50+ spray.

Sun care first

Three of our 4 Avène products are sunscreens and one is lip care. TOCOPHEROL appears in all 4; GLYCERIN, XANTHAN GUM, CITRIC ACID, DISODIUM EDTA and AQUA in 3; and TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, SILICA, DIMETHICONE, PARFUM, BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE, BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE and METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL in 2.

Fragrance and silicones are each listed in 2 (50%); none contains parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

Reading the filter names

BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE (avobenzone), BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE and METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL are UV filters, which is why they cluster in the sunscreens. With fragrance in half the set, compare the family and face variants if you prefer an unscented sunscreen.
