About Brut

Brut is a men's grooming brand that began with a cologne launched by Fabergé in 1964; the lower-priced Brut 33 range followed in 1968. Unilever acquired Fabergé in 1978, and in 2003 Idelle Labs, a division of Helen of Troy, bought the brand rights for some regions. The range covers colognes, aftershaves and deodorants.

A fragrance-led range

Brut's 18 products in INCIMondo – deodorants, fragrances, shower gels and shaving products – are dominated by scent. All five of the most frequent ingredients after water are individually declared fragrance components: LINALOOL, LIMONENE, CITRONELLOL, BENZYL SALICYLATE and GERANIOL.

Every one of the 18 formulas contains fragrance ingredients. Denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.), the solvent behind a quick-drying feel, is listed in 13, and silicones in 3. None contains parabens.

Reading Brut sprays and colognes

In aerosol deodorants, propellants such as BUTANE are listed like any other ingredient, often near the top. Because Brut's leading ingredients are named fragrance components, anyone avoiding a specific one – GERANIOL or CITRONELLOL, for example – can check for it directly.
