About Clear
Clear is Unilever's anti-dandruff shampoo brand, sold worldwide. It was introduced in 1975 under the name Clinic and renamed Clear in 1982, and the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is among its best-known ambassadors. In some countries the same line has been sold under other names, such as Ultrex in Greece and Linic in Portugal.
A uniform shampoo base
The 8 Clear products we list are shampoos – anti-dandruff, men's, Scalp Oil Control and a CR7 Legend edition – with labels in Turkish, Spanish and English. The formulas are remarkably uniform: SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, GLYCERIN, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, GLYCINE, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS SEED OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, DIMETHICONOL, NIACINAMIDE and CARBOMER all appear in all 8.
Silicones are present in all 8 (100%) and fragrance in 7 (88%). None contains parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Finding the anti-dandruff ingredient
Anti-dandruff shampoos rely on a specific active, often listed under names such as ZINC PYRITHIONE, PIROCTONE OLAMINE or CLIMBAZOLE; which one is used can differ between countries and versions, so check the tube you buy. DIMETHICONOL is the silicone that appears throughout this range.
