About John Frieda

John Frieda is a hair care brand named after the British hairdresser John Frieda; it was the first independent professional salon brand launched in the UK and has been owned by the Japanese group Kao since 2003. Its best-known range is Frizz Ease, alongside colour-focused lines such as Sheer Blonde, launched in the late 1990s, and variants for brunettes.

Three lines, one signature

Shampoos lead the 9 John Frieda products we list, followed by conditioners and a straightening spray, spread across Frizz Ease, Brilliant Brunette and Sheer Blonde. PARFUM and AQUA appear in all 9, LIMONENE in 8, MALIC ACID in 7 and BENZYL ALCOHOL and DISODIUM EDTA in 6 each.

Fragrance is universal (100%), and silicones appear in 6 formulas (67%) – DIMETHICONE alone in 5. Parabens and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) each turn up in 1 product (11%).

Matching line to label

Each line has its own formula logic, so compare a Sheer Blonde shampoo with another Sheer Blonde product rather than with Frizz Ease. Silicones end in -CONE or -SILOXANE (DIMETHICONE, AMODIMETHICONE); HEXYL CINNAMAL and LIMONENE are fragrance substances named separately once they pass set levels.
