About Olaplex
Olaplex is an American hair care company founded in 2014 by Dean Christal and headquartered in Santa Barbara, California; its technology was developed by the chemists Eric Presley and Craig Hawker. The private equity firm Advent International acquired it in 2019, it listed on Nasdaq in 2021, and Henkel agreed to acquire it in 2026. Its patented ingredient is bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, presented as a bond-building technology.
The bond ingredient, product by product
The 8 Olaplex products we list carry the brand's numbers – No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, No. 4P Blonde Enhancer, No. 6 Bond Smoother, No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask – plus LashBond and BrowBond serums. PHENOXYETHANOL and CITRIC ACID appear in all 8, and BIS-AMINOPROPYL DIGLYCOL DIMALEATE in 7, alongside GLYCERIN and SODIUM BENZOATE (7 each).
Fragrance is declared in 6 formulas (75%) and silicones in 4 (50%). Parabens appear in 1 (13%); none contains denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Numbers on the bottle
The number on each Olaplex bottle indicates its step and type rather than its formula, so No. 4 and No. 4P are different products. The brand's signature ingredient is listed under its INCI name, BIS-AMINOPROPYL DIGLYCOL DIMALEATE; the lash and brow serums are applied near the eyes, so check their lists separately from the hair products.
