About St. Tropez
St. Tropez is a British self-tan brand founded in 1996. PZ Cussons, the Manchester-based consumer goods group, acquired it in 2010 for £62 million. The range covers self-tanning products, skin finishing and perfecting products and bronzing cosmetics.
The self-tan formula
The 7 St. Tropez products we list – most with Polish labels – are self-tanners: Classic, Express and Berry Sorbet mousses, Luxe face and body drops, a Purity face mist and a bronzing face tint. PARFUM appears in all 7; GLYCERIN, LINALOOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, DIHYDROXYACETONE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM METABISULFITE and AQUA in 6; CITRONELLOL and GERANIOL in 5.
Every formula declares fragrance (100%). None contains parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).
Spotting the tanning agent
The browning effect of self-tanners comes from DIHYDROXYACETONE (DHA), sometimes combined with ERYTHRULOSE; a tinted product may also contain colourants for an instant guide colour. SODIUM METABISULFITE often accompanies DHA as a stabiliser, which is why both appear in the same 6 products here.
