About Sun Bum

Sun Bum is a sun care brand founded in 2010 in Cocoa Beach, Florida, which started as friends making products for friends and family; it has offices in Cocoa Beach and Encinitas, California. In 2019 SC Johnson agreed to acquire the brand, whose range covers sunscreens, after-sun and other sun-related care.

Few shared ingredients

Three of our 4 Sun Bum entries are sunscreens – the Premium Moisturizing Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 (twice, one labelled Broad Spectrum) and Lotion SPF 30 – and the fourth is the Cool Down After Sun Lotion. The formulas overlap little: TOCOPHEROL is the most common ingredient (3), followed by a group in 2 each, including PEG-100 STEARATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE, C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE and ALCOHOL DENAT.

All 4 declare fragrance (100%). Denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) is in 2 (50%) and silicones in 1 (25%); no parabens are listed.

Where the UV filters went

In the US, sunscreens are regulated as over-the-counter drugs, so the UV filters are printed separately as 'Active ingredients' and may not appear in the inactive-ingredient list our data is built from. To see the full picture of a Broad Spectrum product, read both the active and the inactive lists on the pack.
