Our review

A classic, rich protective face cream for cold weather built on sweet almond and peanut oils with beeswax and a natural fragrance. Users value its comfort and price on dry skin; the greasy film it leaves is the main drawback.

Packaging and what the product is

The photo on weleda.fr shows a sunny yellow 30 ml tube with a white screw cap, labelled “Weleda – Cold Cream” with “nutri-protective cream / crème nutri-protectrice”. It is a water-in-oil type protective cream for the face, traditionally used against cold, wind and dryness.

Ingredient analysis

The list is short and lipid-rich. After water come sweet almond oil and peanut (Arachis hypogaea) oil, then beeswax (cera flava), which gives the cream its protective, slightly waxy body. Alcohol follows, then glyceryl linoleate and sorbitan olivate as emulsifiers, and zinc sulfate – a classic stabiliser in water-in-oil emulsions.

There are no synthetic preservatives; the alcohol content contributes to stability. The fragrance is natural and brings limonene, linalool, citronellol, geraniol and citral as declared allergens. There are no humectant actives or “anti-ageing” ingredients – it is a straightforward barrier cream.

What to watch out for

It contains peanut oil, which is important for people with a peanut allergy, and beeswax, so it is not vegan. Five declared fragrance allergens may bother fragrance-sensitive skin. The rich, occlusive texture may not suit oily or blemish-prone skin.

What users say

On Ecco Verde (France) the cream has 4.52/5 from 25 ratings (checked 31 Oct 2026); one long-time user says she has returned to it for decades for very dry, dehydrated skin and praises the value for money, another calls it a good cream for “thirsty” skin. Redcare Pharmacie shows 5/5 from 2 ratings (checked 31 Oct 2026): reviewers mention a discreet scent, a pleasant texture and a protective, repairing feel, but one notes a slightly greasy film and advises using only a little.

Overall there are relatively few written opinions, but they are consistently positive.

Who it may suit

People with dry or very dry skin who need extra protection in cold, windy weather and like natural-cosmetics formulas. Not suitable for anyone allergic to peanuts, and probably too rich for oily skin.
