About Weleda

Weleda is a Swiss company headquartered in Arlesheim, founded in 1920–1921 by the philosopher Rudolf Steiner and the physician Ita Wegman; it has used the Weleda name since 1928. It makes natural and organic cosmetics as well as anthroposophic medicines. Weleda is a member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade and received the first-ever UEBT certification in 2018.

Weleda by the numbers

The 17 Weleda products in INCIMondo range from toothpastes and shower gels to hair care, deodorants and shaving products. The top five ingredients after water – LIMONENE, LINALOOL, ALCOHOL, GERANIOL and GLYCERIN – include three individually declared fragrance components.

Fragrance ingredients are present in 14 of the 17 formulas. None contains parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.); the ALCOHOL in the ranking is ethanol used as a solvent and carrier for plant extracts.

ALCOHOL versus ALCOHOL DENAT.

On Weleda labels, ALCOHOL means undenatured ethanol and is listed separately from ALCOHOL DENAT. And because “natural” and “organic” are not defined in EU cosmetics law, a certification logo, where present, is what shows that a specific private standard is met.
