About sebamed

sebamed is a German skin care brand marketed by Sebapharma GmbH & Co. KG, based in Salzig, a district of Boppard. It was founded by Heinz Maurer (1921–2016). The brand's concept is that healthy skin has a slightly acidic surface with a pH of about 5.5, so its cleansers and care products are formulated to that pH, unlike traditional soap, which is alkaline. The range includes soap-free washes and cleansing bars, lotions, foot cream, baby care and deodorants.

Formulated around pH 5.5

Shower gels, soaps and body lotions lead the 17 sebamed products we list. After water, PARFUM (15) and CITRIC ACID (12) are the most frequent ingredients, followed by PHENOXYETHANOL (10) and COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE (10).

Scent features in 15 formulas (88%). Silicones appear in 1 (6%); parabens and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) are not listed in any product.

What the list can and cannot tell you

The pH of 5.5 that the brand is built on is not part of the ingredient list; what you can see is CITRIC ACID, used in small amounts to adjust pH. Soap-free cleansing bars use surfactants rather than saponified oils, so their lists read differently from a classic soap.
