Packaging and what the product is

The photo on the brand’s site shows a jar from the Aquacell line, sold as a firming cream for day and night use.

Ingredient analysis

After water come the emollients ethylhexyl stearate and decyl oleate, then glycerin. Polyglyceryl-3 dicitrate/stearate, cetearyl alcohol and glyceryl stearate form the emulsion. Shea butter, vitamin E acetate and sodium hyaluronate (a humectant) are the care ingredients, with nasturtium and hydrolysed wild pansy extracts lower on the list. Dimethicone, xanthan gum and carbomer shape the texture.

What to watch out for

The preservative system combines DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde releaser, with methylparaben, propylparaben and phenoxyethanol. All are permitted in EU cosmetics within limits, but formaldehyde releasers are a known allergen for people already sensitised to formaldehyde, and EU rules require a specific warning above a set threshold. The product also contains perfume (parfum).
