Ingredient analysis

This is an oil serum with no water. Sunflower seed oil is the base, followed by rosehip oil and perilla seed oil – both rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids – then coco-caprylate, a light, fast-absorbing ester that reduces greasiness, and jojoba oil. Damask rose flower oil and lavender oil provide the scent and appear before the allergen declarations. Tocopheryl acetate is the only antioxidant listed. No preservative is needed in an anhydrous formula.

What to watch out for

Six fragrance allergens are declared – citral, citronellol, geraniol, linalool, eugenol and farnesol – mostly from rose and lavender oils. Oils rich in polyunsaturated fats can go rancid over time, so the serum is best kept closed and away from heat and used within the period-after-opening shown on the pack. People prone to clogged pores should introduce any facial oil gradually.

Reviewers describe a light oil that absorbs without a greasy film, softer and more elastic-feeling skin, a delicate natural rose scent and good value given that a few drops are enough.
