About Aveeno

Aveeno traces its origins to 1945, when the American brothers Sidney and Albert Musher began researching oats and found that finely ground colloidal oatmeal could be used in care for dry, sensitive skin. According to the brand, all its body products still contain oat extracts or colloidal oatmeal. Aveeno belongs to Kenvue, the consumer health company separated from Johnson & Johnson in 2023. The range includes body lotions, face care, baby wash and hair care.

Oats on the label

The brand's oat heritage is visible in the data: AVENA SATIVA KERNEL FLOUR – the INCI name for finely ground oat – appears in 25 of the 44 Aveeno products. The ingredients listed more often after water are GLYCERIN (41), CETYL ALCOHOL (31) and DIMETHICONE (26). Body lotions, baby care products and shampoos are the main categories.

Silicones feature in 29 formulas (66%), while fragrance is declared in only 15 (34%). Parabens appear in 2 (5%), and none of the products contains denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

Oat, silicone and paraben names

Oat ingredients start with AVENA SATIVA; silicones usually end in -CONE or -SILOXANE (DIMETHICONE, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE), where they add slip and a smooth finish. The two paraben-containing products can be spotted by names ending in -PARABEN, so check each item rather than the brand as a whole.
