Our review

A fragrance-free 50 ml face cream for blemish-prone skin with zinc oxide, zinc PCA and panthenol in a water-in-oil base of sunflower oil and shea butter. On dm it has a very high rating, with many users crediting it for calmer skin and fewer spots; a minority found it drying yet greasy.

Packaging and what the product is

The official dm photo (Balea is dm’s own brand) shows a cream-coloured 50 ml tube with the dark-blue Balea oval logo and the words “Zink Creme – Zink PCA, Zinkoxide und Panthenol”, standing next to its matching carton marked parfümfrei (fragrance-free). dm’s description recommends a thin layer after cleansing, ideally overnight, or as a spot treatment.

Ingredient analysis

Water and sunflower oil form a water-in-oil emulsion stabilised by polyglyceryl-3 polyricinoleate. Zinc oxide sits fourth, giving the cream its opaque, slightly matte finish; zinc PCA, a soluble zinc salt, appears further down. Shea butter, cetyl palmitate, decyl oleate, carnauba and Japan (Rhus verniciflua peel) waxes add body, while panthenol, allantoin, bisabolol and pantolactone are soothing and conditioning additions. Phenoxyethanol with ethylhexylglycerin preserves it; there is no fragrance.

What to watch out for

Zinc oxide here is a skin-care ingredient, not a declared UV filter – the cream makes no SPF claim. The rich, waxy base may feel heavy on very oily skin and can leave a whitish cast if applied thickly. dm advises avoiding the eye area. Some users with sensitive skin reported dryness or breakouts, so introduce it gradually.
