About CeraVe

CeraVe is a skin care brand launched in 2005 and built around ceramides, lipids that occur naturally in the skin's outer layer. It was originally owned by Valeant (now Bausch Health), which sold it to L'Oréal in 2017 in a deal worth about 1.3 billion US dollars that also included AcneFree and Ambi. The range centres on moisturising creams and lotions and on cleansers, including foaming, hydrating and salicylic-acid (SA) versions.

Ceramides across the range

The ceramide concept CeraVe is built on shows directly in the data. Across its 65 face creams, cleansers and body lotions, the most frequent ingredients are CHOLESTEROL (64), PHYTOSPHINGOSINE (63), CERAMIDE AP (62) and GLYCERIN (62) – the same lipid trio turns up in almost every product.

None of the 65 formulas lists fragrance (PARFUM), and none contains denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.). Silicones appear in 30 (46%) and parabens in 8 (12%).

Checking for fragrance and parabens

To confirm a product is unscented, check that neither PARFUM nor AROMA appears and that no fragrance substances such as LIMONENE or LINALOOL are listed. Parabens, present in a minority of the range, are named with the ending -PARABEN – for instance METHYLPARABEN or PROPYLPARABEN.
