About Eucerin

Eucerin is a skincare brand of Beiersdorf, the Hamburg company behind Nivea. Its origins lie in the emulsifier Eucerit, developed by Dr Isaac Lifschütz around 1900 and patented in 1902; he sold the patent to Beiersdorf in 1911. Eucerin is marketed as medical skin care sold through pharmacies, and its pH5 line goes back to 1950.

Eucerin by the numbers

Eucerin's 20 products in INCIMondo cover face care, body care, sun care and lip care. The ingredient ranking (water aside) reads GLYCERIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL and TRISODIUM EDTA.

Only 5 formulas (25%) contain fragrance ingredients. Denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) is more frequent, at 6 (30%), while silicones (2, 10%) and parabens (1, 5%) are rare.

Two kinds of alcohol

Eucerin labels can show both ALCOHOL DENAT. and CETEARYL ALCOHOL. The first is denatured ethanol, used for a quick-drying texture; the second is a fatty alcohol that thickens and stabilises creams – a different group of ingredients despite the shared word.
