Our review

A mild, sulphate-free natural shampoo for frequent washing, based on glutamate, glucoside and oat amino acid surfactants with millet extract and macadamia oil. Many users like the gentleness, shine and scent; others find it leaves fine hair heavy or not quite clean.

Packaging and what the product is

The photo on weleda.de shows a cream-white 190 ml bottle with a white flip cap and a lime-green label reading “Weleda – Gentle & Mild Shampoo”, “Hirse | Millet” and “Reinigt sanft” (gently cleanses). It is a daily shampoo for normal hair, sold earlier as “Hirse Pflege-Shampoo” (Millet Nourishing Shampoo).

Ingredient analysis

The cleansing system avoids sulphates: disodium cocoyl glutamate, disodium coco-glucoside citrate and sodium lauroyl oat amino acids, later topped up with sodium cocoyl glutamate and sucrose laurate. Alcohol and glycerin follow, xanthan gum thickens, and sodium PCA and PCA glyceryl oleate add moisture and a little re-fatting.

The botanical part includes millet seed extract, macadamia seed oil and sage leaf extract; lactic acid and arginine adjust pH. There is no conventional preservative – alcohol, glyceryl caprylate and sodium phytate help keep it stable. The natural fragrance brings declared limonene, linalool, citral and coumarin.

What to watch out for

Four labelled fragrance allergens (limonene, linalool, citral, coumarin) are relevant for people with fragrance contact allergy. The macadamia oil and re-fatting agents can weigh down very fine or quickly oily hair. Keep out of the eyes, as with any shampoo.

What users say

On medpex the shampoo has 4.3/5 from 19 reviews (checked 31 Oct 2026; the shop notes reviews are not verified). Fans describe a pleasant herbal scent, good but not excessive foam, a calmer scalp with less flaking, and hair that feels soft and easy to comb – one wrote “Die Haare sind leicht, unbeschwert, fluffig, weich”. Shop Apotheke shows 4.4/5 from 7 ratings, with comments about shine and needing to wash less often.

Ecco Verde is more mixed at 3.76/5 from 45 ratings (checked 31 Oct 2026): several reviewers found it too rich, leaving hair greasy, stringy or straw-like, and one developed an itchy scalp after a while.

Who it may suit

People with normal to dry hair who want a gentle, fragrance-light natural shampoo for frequent use. Those with very fine or fast-greasing hair may find it too conditioning.
