Our review

A leave-in heat-protection spray for coloured hair (Kérastase Chroma Absolu Sérum Chroma Thermique) built on amodimethicone and conditioning polymers, with lactic acid and a touch of hyaluronate. Users largely praise smoothness, detangling and scent; a minority see little difference for the price.

Packaging and what the product is

We could not retrieve an image from the official Kérastase site, so no photo is cited here. The ingredient list provided matches, word for word, the one published by retailers for Kérastase Chroma Absolu Sérum Chroma Thermique, a 150 ml leave-in product applied by spray to damp hair before blow-drying or heat styling. It is part of the Chroma Absolu range for colour-treated hair.

Ingredient analysis

After water, amodimethicone is the main conditioning agent: an amino-functional silicone that deposits preferentially on damaged areas, smoothing the cuticle and reducing friction. Polyquaternium-37 and quaternium-87 add conditioning and detangling, phenyl trimethicone adds shine, and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil and trideceth emulsifiers keep the silicone dispersed.

Lactic, acetic and tartaric acids with arginine set a slightly acidic pH, which suits colour-treated hair. Glycerin, tocopherol, sodium hyaluronate and Centella asiatica extract are minor extras. Preservation relies on phenoxyethanol and chlorhexidine digluconate. The fragrance includes declared linalool, limonene, geraniol and hydroxycitronellal.

What to watch out for

Four declared fragrance allergens matter for people with fragrance contact allergy, particularly if the spray reaches the neck or face. Chlorhexidine digluconate is a permitted preservative with an EU concentration limit. Amodimethicone can build up on fine hair with frequent use; an occasional clarifying wash helps. Heat protectants reduce but do not eliminate heat damage.

What users say

On LOOKFANTASTIC the spray has 4.68/5 from 352 reviews (checked 31 Oct 2026). Many describe smooth, soft, tangle-free hair after blow-drying, less frizz for longer, a pleasant scent and a non-greasy finish; some colour-treated users like knowing their hair is protected, and several say their hairdresser uses it.

Less satisfied reviewers say it made little difference to frizz, consider it pricey, and one went back to a supermarket product that worked better for her hair.

Who it may suit

People with coloured, normal to thick hair who blow-dry or heat-style regularly and want a smoothing, detangling heat protectant. Those with very fine hair may find it can weigh hair down if overused.
