Our review
A water-resistant SPF 30 body lotion with four chemical UV filters, a caramel instant bronzer, aloe, cocoa butter and a tropical scent. The few public reviews we found are very positive about feel, smell and tan; the caveats are fragrance and tea tree oil, possible fabric transfer, and a US filter level that differs from EU rules.
Packaging and what the product is
The Australian Gold photo shows a black, curved flip-top tube standing on a bronze cap, with the koala logo, “Instant Bronzer 30” over a palm-leaf pattern, “Lotion Sunscreen”, a gold band reading “Water Resistant (80 minutes)” and “Broad Spectrum SPF 30”. It holds 8 fl oz (237 ml).
It is a body sunscreen lotion with a temporary bronze tint. The brand lists it as broad spectrum, water resistant for 80 minutes, PABA-, phthalate- and gluten-free, vegan and PETA-approved, with the “Cocoa Dreams” fragrance.
Ingredient analysis
The US label lists the filters as active ingredients: avobenzone 3% (UVA), homosalate 7.5%, octisalate 5% and octocrylene 5% (UVB, octocrylene also stabilising avobenzone). The inactive INCI opens with water, aloe juice and C12-15 alkyl benzoate, a light ester that dissolves the filters and improves spreadability, then glycerin and caramel, the wash-off bronzing colourant. Polyethylene, carbomer and an acrylate crosspolymer give body and help the film resist water.
Sunflower and olive oils and cocoa seed butter add emollience; tocopheryl acetate, allantoin and green tea leaf extract play supporting, soothing or antioxidant roles at low levels. Tea tree leaf oil appears near the end. Preservation is phenoxyethanol with ethylhexylglycerin, and tetrasodium glutamate diacetate is a chelator. Fragrance is listed without individual allergens on the US page.
What to watch out for
Homosalate at 7.5% is allowed in the US; in the EU, Regulation (EU) 2022/1176 limits homosalate to 7.34% and to face products, so lotions sold in Europe must be formulated differently – check the label of the version you buy. Octocrylene is an uncommon but known photoallergen, and fragrance and tea tree oil can bother reactive skin.
The bronzer adds no protection, so use enough lotion and reapply as directed (after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, after towelling, at least every two hours). Caramel-tinted sunscreens can mark light fabrics before they dry.
What users say
Public reviews of this exact lotion were hard to find: we did not see a rated US listing for the 8 fl oz lotion at Target. On medino’s REVIEWS.co.uk page the UK 237 ml SPF 30 lotion with bronzer had 4.9 from 11 reviews (checked 1 Nov 2026). Buyers mention a non-sticky, soft feel, easy application, a pleasant smell, a good tan and long-time loyalty; one says it does not stain clothing, and none of the visible reviews were negative.
That UK product may use a different filter combination from the US formula analysed here, and 11 reviews is a small sample.
Who it may suit
Adults whose skin tolerates fragrance and who want a medium-protection body sunscreen with instant colour, applied generously and reapplied regularly. People with fragrance or tea-tree sensitivity, a history of photoallergy, or who need a face sunscreen should look for an unscented product designed for that use.
