Packaging and what the product is

The photo on rimmellondon.com shows a clear 100 mL bottle with a gold-coloured spray pump and a gold front label reading “Multi Tasker – Primer, Mist & Setting Spray”. Rimmel positions it as one product to spray before make-up, between layers and at the end to fix the look.

Ingredient analysis

Water comes first, with denatured alcohol second – it helps the mist dry quickly. Butylene glycol and glycerin add a little moisture, and ammonium acrylates copolymer is the film former that does the “setting”. Further down are sodium PCA, urea, trehalose and sodium hyaluronate as humectants, plus small amounts of chamomile and cucumber extracts and a radish root ferment filtrate.

It is preserved with phenoxyethanol and sorbic acid, with caprylyl glycol in support, and polysorbate 20 solubilises the perfume. The fragrance is significant: hexyl cinnamal, limonene, benzyl salicylate, linalool, geraniol, citronellol, alpha-isomethyl ionone and hydroxycitronellal are all declared.

What to watch out for

With eight labelled fragrance allergens and alcohol high on the list, this is not an obvious choice for very sensitive, reactive or compromised skin. Hydroxycitronellal is an allergen whose use in cosmetics is capped in the EU. Close your eyes and avoid inhaling the mist when spraying.
