Our review

A 75 ml strong-mint fluoride toothpaste (1450 ppm F per the brand) from tołpa’s White ON range, combining silica abrasive, pyrophosphates, the peroxide whitening agent PAP and the antibacterial cetylpyridinium chloride. Ratings are high and numerous, but the comments are very brief; it contains SLS and is labelled for adults only.

Packaging and what the product is

The tolpa.pl photo shows a white-and-blue tube with a white flip cap standing next to a bright-blue box, both printed with “tołpa”, “fresh & white” and a large “white ON” logo; the box mentions “10x more freshness with strong mint” and “mocna mięta” (strong mint). The tube holds 75 ml.

Ingredient analysis

Water and sorbitol form the paste base, hydrated silica is the main abrasive and perlite a secondary polishing particle. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) provides foam. Tetrapotassium and tetrasodium pyrophosphate are commonly used against tartar build-up. Sodium fluoride supplies fluoride – 1450 ppm according to the brand page. Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid (PAP) is a peroxide-type whitening agent, and cetylpyridinium chloride is an antibacterial agent. Menthol, peppermint oil, carvone and anethole give the strong mint taste; sodium saccharin sweetens, and CI 77891 and CI 74160 colour the paste.

What to watch out for

The brand states the product is for adults only, which is consistent with its fluoride level and whitening agent. SLS is a known irritant for some people prone to mouth ulcers. Limonene is declared as a flavour allergen. Whitening pastes act on surface stains and cannot change the natural shade of teeth or restorations; anyone with sensitive teeth should ask a dentist.

Adults who like an intense mint taste and want a fluoride paste with a whitening component. People prone to mouth ulcers who react to SLS, or with sensitive teeth, may prefer a different formula.
