Our review
A tinted under-eye brightener in a 3 ml click pen, built on a silicone-in-water base with glycerin, caffeine, a sea-succulent extract and soft-focus pigments, sold with a mineral SPF 30 claim. Reviews on the brand site are mostly positive about coverage and texture; the dispenser is the main complaint.

Packaging and what the product is
The bareMinerals photo shows a slim black pen with gold lettering (“bareMinerals Complexion Rescue 3-in-1 Brightener”), a removed black cap and a pale peach brush tip, next to a swatch of the light “Fair” shade. It holds 3 ml (0.1 fl oz) and comes in five shades from Fair to Deep.
It is a twist-to-dispense pen: you turn the base until product reaches the brush, then apply under the eyes or as a highlight. The brand describes it as hydrating, brightening and crease-proof, with mineral SPF 30, and labels it vegan, ophthalmologist-tested and non-comedogenic.
Ingredient analysis
The base is water with dimethicone, phenyl trimethicone and hydroxyethyl dimethicone laurate, giving a smooth, non-greasy glide; glycerin and propanediol hold moisture, and two triglycerides add light emollience. Trimethylsiloxysilicate is a film-forming resin that supports the crease-proof claim, while magnesium sulfate (the “mineral electrolytes”) and disteardimonium hectorite stabilise the emulsion. Mica, iron oxides and titanium dioxide provide the tint and light-reflecting effect, coated with triethoxycaprylylsilane.
Actives are present in small amounts: caffeine, ethyl ferulate and tocopherol (antioxidants), pongamia seed extract and Salicornia herbacea, the “sea succulent”. Preservation uses phenoxyethanol with ethylhexylglycerin; trisodium ethylenediamine disuccinate is a chelator. No fragrance is listed. Note that the ingredient list we analysed does not name a UV filter as an active; in the US, sunscreen actives appear in a separate Drug Facts box on the pack, so check that box for the filter and its percentage.
What to watch out for
Under-eye products are applied in very thin layers, so a small concealer pen is unlikely to deliver its full labelled SPF in practice; use it alongside, not instead of, a proper sunscreen. The ingredients are generally well tolerated around the eyes, but anyone with sensitive eyelids should patch-test first.
The twist mechanism needs many turns on first use, and over-twisting releases too much product.
What users say
On bareminerals.com the pen had 4.2/5 from 251 reviews (134 five-star, 69 four-star, 30 three-star, 10 two-star, 8 one-star), with 81% recommending it (checked 1 Nov 2026). The site’s AI summary of recent reviews and the reviews we read agree: buyers like the lightweight, buildable coverage, the brightening of dark circles, creamy blending, no creasing and the bonus SPF.
Complaints focus on the dispenser – one reviewer had to twist about 25 clicks before anything came out and then got too much – plus brushes drying out between uses and a limited shade range for deeper skin tones.
Who it may suit
People with light-to-medium skin who want a quick, fragrance-free brightener for dark circles and do not mind a click-pen format. People with deeper skin tones may find the five shades limiting, and anyone relying on it for sun protection should add a dedicated sunscreen.
